Igloo Trailmate Cooler Review: Feature Packed, MASSIVE Wheels

As always the ambient temperature and how often you open the cooler will dictate how long the ice will stay. We’ve discussed many of the Igloo Trailmate’s features related to convenience and usability. Thankfully, Igloo has thought about that as well and implemented various measures to make these coolers up to the challenge.
For a non roto molded cooled, the Igloo provided impressive ice retention ability. On the front of the cooler, Igloo advertises up to 4 days of ice retention. In our testing, the Trailmate crushed these numbers with 8 days of ice retention.
You see, we love rotomolded coolers and consider them to be the pinnacle of cooler toughness. However, in this case, we will make an exception because this cooler would not have had all the features that we are soon going to talk about if it had been rotomolded. Besides, with all the great engineering that went into the design, Igloo Trailmate is quite capable in just about any situation it finds itself in. With camping and BBQ season now on our doorsteps, to time to get back into nature is now so it’s also the perfect time to invest in a new cooler for the occasion.
If you’re wanting to push the boat out a little and add a real level of versatility to your cookouts, this Trailmate Journey 70 Qt Cooler from Igloo will tick all the right boxes. In our testing we had it going up trails, sitting out in the 90+ degree heat and opened and closed the door to keep grabbing beers. It kept some ice up to the 4 days even with all of these conditions!
We are on the quest to find the best coolers for whatever adventure life gives you, so now let’s learn more in the

Cooler Review. A common complaint that people have when it comes to these large coolers is their lack of mobility. Igloo has found a way to solve that issue in addition to offering up a lot of really cooler other features.
The Igloo Trailmate Cooler also comes with additional storage for your non-chilled items. You will find a special dry storage bin that is perfect for your electronics, wallets, or other items that you want to stay secure and not get wet. For less sensitive items, there is also a large storage pocket directly below the dry storage bin.
All company, product and service names used in this website are for identification purposes only. Use of these names, logos, and brands does not imply endorsement. The Liddup, for example,

has LED lights inside for lighting up the cooler when you use it at night. The Marine has special inhibitors for UV rays in the wall that protect it from the sun’s damaging rays.
Second, there is a removable dry storage box on the front of the cooler so you can and keep the phone/keys in there without fear of water or sand damaging then. The handle is located right above both of these storage areas. Of all the wheeled coolers with telescopic/collapsing handles we have tested and reviewed, the handle on the Trailmate is the most robust. We tested pulling and pushing the cooler when filled to capacity with ice and the over sized wheels and handle rolled without issue.
Now all of this together wouldn’t have been possible if the cooler was roto-molded because rotational molding can’t afford this amount of details and features. These two materials won’t rust, break or fail apart; they’re meant to hold the coolers’ parts together regardless of the surrounding environment for a cooler with a longer life span than expected. Well, the Trailmate is not a roto-molded cooler and we’ll explain why briefly. However, that didn’t stop it from being as cool and exceptional as it is, on the contrary; it allowed it to have so much more details and features than any roto-molded cooler could possibly have. That said, the Trailmate is 34.59″ x 19.7″ x 23.61″ (LxWxH) and that’s not small at all. Actually, you’ll usually end up needing a second hand to help you put the cooler in your car’s or van’s trunk when it’s fully loaded.
