You won’t have to worry about scratches or cuts on your skin thanks to the high performance trimmer with rounded blades. Our panelists found that the Manscaped The Lawn Mower 2.0 performed fine but lacked the features that set apart our picks. The Lawn Mower comes with two reversible attachments for length customization, but we didn’t like that when one of those attachments was on, the device became extra-bulky. We’ve found the spotlight helpful, especially when trimming in a poorly lit bathroom. Like earlier Manscaped models, the 4.0 also comes with two length attachments.

Few nicks, no signs of wear, and overall a great product we would purchase again and again. The Gillette Styler, though, feels small in your hand — which really works to its benefit. It’s powerful but tiny, perfect for hair-by-hair styling if you’re looking for finesse in your trimmer.

I recommend Wahl clipper oil or Oster blade lube, these are cheap and effective lubricants that I’ve been using for years with all my trimmers, shavers and hair clippers. Having good battery life is really important with cordless-only body trimmers like this one. Other than that, it’s just as effective at cutting the hairs close, fast and without nicks. Using the Bodygroom 5000 on the rest of the body is easy and enjoyable and the trimmer is very effective at cutting flat-lying hairs as well. The Philips – Multigroom had amazing battery life for the price and overall is a solid, versatile trimmer, but it’s just not something you’d want to put anywhere private. If your only use case is chest, arm, face or back hair, it’s a great option and something worth considering for your medicine cabinet.

It has the fewest shortcomings and performance-wise, it’s surprisingly good for a trimmer of this type (and size). If you want a close trim, you will need a second groomer specifically for the sensitive areas. There are some small, cheap groomers that would be perfectly suitable for that as you’ll see later on.

The Mangroomer took last in our tests but had an okay runtime overall if you consider it’ll mostly be used on only one area. One of the first things we looked at with these units was blade sharpness. A common adjective in reviews of bad units is that they had “teeth” — and in feeling the design of each of these, it became quite obvious which ones did. However, depending on where you live, it may not be a viable option anymore as the price seems to have spiked lately. The part is readily available and the price is pretty reasonable as well.

Apart from the 2mm guard (SkinGuard), the ER-GK60-S comes with two 3 and 6 mm guards. Philips somehow managed to squeeze in a large battery that charges from 0 to 100% in under 3 hours. Also, the 7000 is philips trimmer blade quite large and heavy so trimming hard-to-reach areas will be more fiddly. You can lubricate it every once in a while, but mine still cuts great despite not doing that and I’ve been using it for years.

I think most users will be better off using the trimmer on dry skin. And speaking of the blades, they’re regular blades, just like the ones you would find on hair clippers. The foil (which is hypoallergenic) is extremely similar to what you would find on a regular foil electric shaver.

The Philips Norelco Multigroom Series 7000 has got to be the Swiss army knife of trimmers. Just like the Bodygroom 5000, the 7000 uses the same BG2000 hybrid head, which means it’s durable, cheap and easy to source. Also, if the skin is wet (from sweat or high humidity), it can get stuck and the stroke will be jittery and jerky.

Overall, the trimming and shaving performance was among the best I’ve experienced from any body groomers. The motor is adequately powerful and you could definitely use it to shave your entire body. I tend to get quite a nasty folliculitis if I shave my legs, arms or chest, so I only use the adjustable trimmer of the body groomer on those areas.
