Schwinn Mountain Bike Review

People need to calm down, acting like Schwinn bikes are utter garbage because they come from a department store… look I have had the old Ascension since 2014. The original components lasted about a year, of way outside schwinn road bike the bike’s intended purpose and I upgraded wheels/tires and way overkill with a Shimano Zee groupset for the last 6 years. I have done minimal maintenance on it and it is still working in perfect condition.

The brake pads, which are mounted to the opposite side of the brake arms, move together and squeeze the rim to apply braking force. Thanks for this Zach, always nice to see how the most cost effective bikes are comparing to what we have on the floor. For sure these bikes will be in for repairs – but nice to see that it will be easy to get parts and keep those customers happy. Now think about this if anyone with any type of bike experience knows what $500 is going to get u however let’s not forget $500 for some is a lot of cash. On the flip side I know a guy who owns a $7000 SC and crashes every time he rides go figure. Our team consists of life-long riders who enjoy researching and writing about bikes.

With a simple design and understated style paired with modern components, this bike may be the closest to a go-anywhere, do-almost-anything mountain bike. The tires are suitable for light to medium-duty off-road riding, but should also perform well on hard-pack trails and pavement. Apart from some commuter and road stuff, new tires and rims are all being engineered around optimal tubeless integration today. I have interviewed multiple tire and rim manufacturers, and they’re all stoked about the benefits they find with tubeless setups. So, while you can use a tube in modern tires, their design intent is tubeless-first. As you mentioned, the choice to tube that tubeless-first tire or not is all yours.

When comparing the two companies’ models of mountain bikes, it’s obvious who has the more popular models, and it’s obvious who has the most variety. They offer a plethora of MTB models with different intents for each, from cross country to dirt jumping. I converted my Schwinn High Sierra into a touring bike and took it on my first bike tour. Before the tour, I installed a rear rack, swapped out the 2.5″ mountain bike tires for 1.5″ touring tires, and upgraded the saddle to a more comfortable Brooks B17. I also bought a frame bag and handlebar harness to haul more gear and installed a mirror on the handlebar end.

Schwinn bikes will last years with regular maintenance by a professional mechanic and proper care at home. Frequently inspecting the suspension, inflating the tires properly, and lubricating the chain are low-cost ways to extend the life of a schwinn hybrid bike. Schwinn Traxion is an absolute beast, and this bike has some excellent capabilities. Unlike the other bikes above, this is a full-suspension mountain bike and not only has front forks but a rear shock. One thing that makes Schwinn very different from other bike brands is that they typically use only one frame size on some models and just change the wheel size.
