The Philips NT5650 16 nose hair trimmer is a travel-ready anti-whisker dream British GQ

Our testers appreciated how lightweight it was to use, with some describing its design as intuitive — thanks to its trim, shave and edge features. This thing can do (almost) anything and it comes bundled with a huge array of guards and cutting attachments, including a nose hair trimmer and a foil head. Also, there are some that will even work as beard trimmers and hair clippers if you want a single do-it-all tool.

Because of its small head, an entire trimming session will take longer, so definitely keep that in mind. The price is a bit higher compared to the OneBlade head for example, but it should (at least in theory) last more. The battery should be more than enough for a vacation (provided it’s 100% charged), so there’s no need to take the Braun charger with you. In my case, it was barely enough to complete a full body trim and I’m not a very hairy guy.

The last thing you want is to cut their hair 1/4″ shorter only to discover that they were more interested in the length of their haircut; not the quality. Well, this makes the Oster clipper a top choice for barbers looking for extremely precise haircut lengths. That’s philips shaver because it has up to 14 different blade sizes; which is way more than you get with Andis clippers. As for Remington clippers, only their HC6525 version comes with color-coded attachment combs. And you won’t easily find any third-party versions for this clipper brand.

The #2 guard comb measures 6mm or 1/4 inch; which is, basically, not too long or short. Also, just like the #0 haircut, there will be a degree of scalp exposure with #1 haircuts. The #0 haircut – or 1/2 for Wahl clipper users – is, basically, the shortest there is. There are different clipper guard lengths; some longer and some shorter.

Due to a manual razor’s design of direct skin contact, you’re going to get a much closer shave. Using a manual razor raises slight risks of getting ingrown hairs, razor bumps, and razor burn—especially if you’re not prepping your shaving routine properly and not using a clean blade. I personally stick to a dry trim as it takes me less time and most trimmers are a lot more effective at cutting hairs when they don’t stick to the wet skin, especially if you use a guard. If you want a trimmer with an adjustable guide comb, the Braun BT5265 is a solid choice.

As for spray lubricants, the Andis CoolCare Plus is effective and reasonably priced. If there’s a cooler room you can use, definitely try that or crank up the AC during hot summer philips trimmer blade days before you actually start trimming. I’ve often touched upon this, but it’s one of those little things that can make the difference between a poor and a great experience.
