Wyze Thermostat Programmable, Wireless Smart Home Digital Thermostat

When Google purchased Nest and integrated it into its smart home lineup, the Nest Thermostat moved to the Google Home app. Google Home currently has a 4-star user rating on the Google Play Store and a 4.5-star user rating on Apple’s App Store. The Nest Thermostat will constantly trigger your HVAC—called “pulsing”—to charge its battery, potentially damaging your system. Google took a lot of heat for not providing an adapter and eventually released one in May of 2021.

You will need to check where these extra wires go at the control panel. If one or more wires in your current thermostat doesn’t have a label, don’t guess. You’ll need to know what wires are connected to your current thermostat before you can install your Wyze Thermostat.

Want to take a peak at the room temperature insights, history, and current temperature? The Wyze app offers insights into your temperature variations and schedules. This is quite a good feature as you can keep track of your ambient temperature from wherever you are. The WiFi thermostat from Wyze comes with a front panel that features a decent LCD display coupled with a shiny dial adjuster.

It guides you step by step, but that isn’t the impressive part. The app asks you what wires you see when you pull off your old thermostat and then guides you through the correct steps for your setup. While this funny-looking device might not rank as the best smart thermostat, the Wyze Thermostat does have a few things going for it.

One of the latest additions to Wyze’s product lineup is the Wyze Room Sensor. When paired with the Wyze Smart Thermostat it can eliminate cold spots in rooms, use movement to optimize heating and cooling, and much more. The Settings menu is where you’ll find the true functionality of your wyze security camera. You can tell the thermostat whether you’re interested in Comfort or Savings.

With a C-wire, the Nest Thermostat will draw power to charge the battery through the common wire. Without a C-wire, it is designed to draw power from the HVAC system only when it is on, either heating or cooling your home. This is fine unless the weather is excellent, and your HVAC system isn’t cooling or heating.

Let’s hope the thermostat is equally reliable and that Wyze isn’t using third-party software to implement any smarts, as relying on a partner proved to be a mistake for the Wyze Cam. If you’re searching for a great way to modernize your home, look no further than smart locks. If you’re upgrading from a decades-old thermostat, the wyze thermostat will feel futuristic as soon as you take it out of the box.

If your home does not have a C-wire, Wyze provides an adapter that allows you to power the thermostat using a USB cable. In the case of the Wyze and Nest thermostats, both devices come with the necessary accessories for installation. The Wyze thermostat comes with a backplate, screws, wire labels, and a Quick Start Guide.

I currently have one, and am looking for it to be supported by Home Assistant. When it comes to design, the Wyze Thermostat is a fascinating little device. It’s quite charlatan, sporting a simple oval shape and a black and white finish. The glossy black is allegedly smudge and scratch proof, which keeps things clean and clear even later into its lifespan.
