Hamilton Beach HJE960-CE Otto Centrifugal Juice Extractor

There’s more to clean with a larger container and an added lid, and foam can be removed using a spoon on models without a lid. Hamilton Beach’s juice container is much smaller, but you can also fit a drinking glass under the spout in place of the juice catcher. This cannot be done on Breville’s juicer since the juice comes spraying out and will make a mess unless the proper container is in place. We finished out our testing for hard produce with sweet potatoes and again got an admirably average performance. The Big Mouth yielded the amount of juice we got from most juicers in our lineup, with moderate amounts of pulp.

It produced juice with great texture, but the taste seemed slightly off compared to the other tested models. Our testers found it to be substantially less tasty than the beverages produced by some of the other, higher-quality juicers. Thanks to its straightforward design, shoppers say it’s the perfect place to start as a beginner. Assembling the appliance is as easy as inserting its strainer and locking the lid with latches, and it has a straightforward on and off dial to operate it.

Overall, it’s not the best but usually retails for substantially less than the highest-scoring models. This juicer is a fantastic value, holding its own with models that cost hundreds of dollars more. The Big Mouth does include a cleaning brush, but we didn’t find it to be terribly durable, as it was already starting to lose bristles by the conclusion of our tests. However, the components are safe to clean in the dishwasher, and none had any areas that are a huge pain to wash by hand. This juicer did amazingly well at juicing wheatgrass, earning one of the highest scores of the group and only outperformed by the best products in the lineup. The Big Mouth generated about 4.3mL of juice, well above the 2.5mL average.

But functionality is more important to us, and Hamilton Beach beats Breville in our opinion. I did like the two speed option on the Breville juicer, compared to one-speed-only on Hamilton Beach. The added low-speed on Breville is nice for when you juice soft items such as oranges; I found that the lower speed created less foam. For the last 3 years I have been drinking juicing recipes to keep up my vegetable intake but I also love the fresh taste! You may remember my first Hamilton Beach Juicer review on Stagetecture in 2012 and I’m excited to pair up with them again to feature their larger model juicer.

Both machines made some mess on the counters, back splash, and under the cabinets when fruits and vegetables were added to the juicers. Tiny pieces of pulp would spray out from the opening while the machines hamilton beach coffee grinder were running. Hamilton Beach did a little bit better than Breville did, in this regard. I also tried to run the pulp through the  machine a second time, which squeezed out a few more dribbles, but not enough to be worth the extra effort. I don’t see how purchasing a much more expensive machine would save money even in the long run, but I could be mistaken.

The 3-inch mouth allows you to fit whole or halved fruits and vegetables in, so there’s minimal prep. Sometimes a fresh-pressed juice is just the thing to brighten up a drab fall day. Juicing at home is one way to customize your beverage and save money, but at-home machines can be incredibly daunting. There are so hamilton beach coffee grinder many high-tech options on the market, and they can run upwards of $150. We evaluated how well each juicer did at juicing sweet potatoes, carrots, and beets for this metric. We used an identical set of criteria as the previous metric to score performance, and the Big Mouth again delivered an average performance.

The larger size mouth also allows for whole apples and larger fruits and vegetables so I didn’t have to cut everything into small pieces. For our final metric, we judged the difficulty in cleaning each juicer. We looked at each component, noting any problems we found in cleaning them, whether or not they are dishwasher-safe, and include a cleaning brush.

Save time & effortThe extra-large 3 inch Big Mouth® chute on the fruit juicer lets you easily add whole foods without precutting. This reduces prep time to save time and effort in the kitchen. The Big Mouth started this metric with a somewhat lackluster performance at juicing carrots, generating a less than average amount of juice with mild amounts of pulp. It did much better at juicing beets, actually earning one of the highest scores of the group.
