If culture wars were to ever erupt in the beard-trimming sphere, the sharpness of beard lines would be one of the key debates. Some like them blended and subtle, some like them so sharp and neat you could get a paper cut from them. Wherever you stand on this crucial battleground, the King C Gillette Style Master will deliver it. The biggest thing that jumped out for me was the speed of the operation. It took at least a quarter less time to do my regular weekly shave, thanks to the fast-moving cutter (12,000rpm).
If you have sensitive skin and you want the most comfortable, customized shave possible, then the Series 9000 Prestige is the better choice. If you want a top-tier razor with Philip’s full array of smart features, then Series 9000 is the way to go. The differences here are minimal at this high of a level, but they are different nonetheless. The Series 3000 Philips razor models are going to be the most basic in terms of how they operate.
Granted, it’s not as capable and I’ll get to that as well, but it’s so nimble and effortless to use, especially when trimming some less accessible areas (like the back of the legs/hamstrings). The trimmers on this list so far are highly capable with large batteries and while they perform great, aren’t very practical for traveling philips body groomer or for a quick touchup. No trimmer is perfect and the Norelco Multigroom 7000, despite its impressive performance in most scenarios, is no exception. You can do so with all the attachments and guards and then just let them air dry. I would only use it without a guard to trim my beard while still being very careful.
There are transparent/no-foam shaving gels as well, but I still don’t find the extra work to be worth it. Most of us want a close trim below the waist, ideally without any nicks and extra work. Manscaping down there deserves a separate section as it’s a very specific part of a man’s grooming routine and requires some extra care.

Things will be a little slippier, so go for a trimmer you can hold effortlessly. Knowing when to replace your electric razor also can come down to a good ol’ fashioned eye test. Are you getting as close of a shave as you did when you first purchased the device? Is your razor pulling or tugging on your whiskers instead of slicing them clean off?
Philips somehow managed to squeeze in a large battery that charges from 0 to 100% in under 3 hours. If you like keeping things simple and want a single tool to handle all your trimming needs, this is probably the one to get. You can lubricate it every once in a while, but mine still cuts great despite not doing that and I’ve been using it for years. Also, if the skin is wet (from sweat or high humidity), it can get stuck and the stroke will be jittery and jerky.
As mentioned in the post, the taper lever’s work is to adjust the sizes of the blades. And from the post on the last part where I talk about blade sizes, it’s clear that Wahl and Andis both have different blades sizes. Therefore, adjusting the taper lever on either of the clippers will result in a different amount/size added or removed. And in terms of measurement, hair clipper guard sizes are determined in millimeters (mm) or inches (“). If these sound like extras you could use, pay attention to the listings and what they include.
