As it costs less than $20 USD, it’s pretty much a no-brainer to add a level of comfort that could otherwise spoil your camping adventure if you went without it. What’s more, the carrying bag split open the first time I zipped it shut and, from the looks of it, won’t last more than two or three camping trips before it needs to be replaced. The Coleman Skylodge had all of the simplicity of an Instant tent with lots of great design features.

The single walls are seam-sealed and have good coverage all the way around. The tub-style floor and tent walls are made of thick 150D polyester. The six stakes will hold the low-profile design down just fine with the two pre-attached guylines. Should the weather turn hot, the large windows on both sides of the tent and door paired with the two top vents allow plenty of air to run through. The aluminum poles are also quite durable; the leg poles are 16mm thick, while the roof poles are 12mm thick.

Still, if you like the sound of a compact tent that goes up in about 60 seconds, this one won’t break the bank. Interestingly enough, the Gazelle is the first tent with fiberglass poles The Wise Adventurer has ever given the “highest quality” designation, but in Gazelle’s case, there’s a reason for it. By using fiberglass, Gazelle is able to get enough flexibility out of their tent frames to allow them coleman camping to bend under tension without breaking, which makes the freestanding hub design possible. You’ll definitely want to stake out the Gazelle from every angle, but the pole material isn’t a quality concern in this case. On all windows, you have panels from inside, so they provide rain protection (the outer layer is a mesh against insects). The horizontal flaps are oriented so that water doesn’t get in.
The main structure isn’t the worst, with the entire tent made of 150D polyester and all seams sealed. However, the zippers and the mesh netting are poorly made, and the bag will not last more than a season before it rips or springs a leak. The poles are made from aluminum, but many moving plastic pieces hold them together.
Actually, you can fit two queen size air mattresses in the Coleman 6 person instant cabin, with some room left to store your gear. The Coleman 6 person instant cabin tent is incredibly easy to carry. Unfortunately, water tends to fall from the sky rather than the ground, and the rest of the tent isn’t built to handle any wetness outside of a mild to heavy fog. The zippers leak, the seams leak, and the rainfly is just a strange little hat that covers up the hub for the tent poles. While most instant tents find a clever way to get their poles up as quickly as possible, the folks at Zempire do things their own way. Specifically, they throw out the poles altogether, and replace them with rigid inflatable beams. Our main complaint with the Gazelle T4 is that although its removable floor is convenient for cleaning, it’s also attached using velcro.
We’re just thinking comfort-wise about sleeping; sleeping bags are fantastic but they don’t offer much padding. The Coleman 6 person instant tent cabin is a savior sent to anyone who hates pitching a tent. Unless you only plan to bring this tent out for the occasional dry weather camping trip, the fact you have to buy a separate rain fly really reduced the value for money of this tent for us. You have only two very small mesh pockets for small items, so this is quite disappointing. Also, with its 59 inches (1.5 m) of peak height, this tent is really a livable space.
