With its steel frame and carbon fork, asymmetrical chainstays and 650b wheels with gargantuan 50c tyres, it’s perfect if you want a bike that will take you anywhere, but don’t want a mountain bike. The Croix de Fer is probably Genesis’ flagship bike, much loved by adventurers and commuters alike. It’s the ultimate all-round all-terrain machine, with a hardy steel frameset, disc brakes, relaxed geometry and mounts for all the additional fittings you might need. The Croix de Fer comes in three steel options (10, 20 and 30) as well as a titanium model.
However, for those looking to cover extra ground, a 160-watt-hour range extender is available, bumping up riding time to seven hours. Some may find the 3× drivetrain more complicated to shift, but it’s a better learning curve for newbies. It’s a much better learning curve for the novice, because afterward, whether the bike is replaced with a 2× or a 1×, you’ll be able to master it more quickly.
