You set up the fly first and it forms a sun shade, then you hook in the tent underneath. The material is the polyester tafetta, the construction is only average. Once the structure is up, all you have to do is attach the detachable sun shade.
This will be coming with us to the beach and any sporting outings where we will be exposed to the weather. First off, this is an affordable solution for a sun shelter. If used heavily, I can not see this product making it through a full camping or outdoor season. Upon taking down the sun shield things started to go sideways. There is glue on the ends of the fiberglass poles that keeps the ends of the poles in the required cap. This broke apart the poles from the cap fitting. I couldn’t believe that the glue failed on both sides.

While it might not sound like much, that is a difference of 64 sq. Ft. of shade coverage which we find to be quite significant. You’ll be able to comfortably fit up to 4 chairs underneath the 64 sq. There is only one shade, which can be put on either side of the sun shelter. You just angle the shelter where you need it, then attach the shade. It’s literally that easy and is very quick and efficient to set up.
After researching many different models, I decided upon the ozark trail straight leg canopy. Overall, this tent is not worth it if rain is involved. It would be good for summer camping in the sun shade mode, or backyard camping for the kids, but I don’t know if I would risk it for backpacking. It is not very heavy, and not poorly constructed, but it just isn’t sturdy or waterproof. Spend a little more money and get a better tent. The Ozark Trail instant sun shade was incredibly easy to put up and even easier to take down.
