Weber® Grills® Traveler 44 Red Portable Grill Maine’s Top Appliance and Mattress Retailer Southern & Central Maine

Consider the size of the group you’ll regularly be cooking for. Smaller grills in the 100- to 150-square-inch range are suitable for one or two people, maybe three in a stretch. One of the only problems encountered was correctly positioning the grates.

Judging by the char, the surfaces were the hottest just outside of the solid ring on the grates that is meant to protect grease from spilling onto the burners. The very inner and outer parts of the surface were the cooler zones. I highly recommend cooking cheeseburgers on this grill by the way. Since the grates have areas that are solid, excess cheese can sit on there and form a delicious crust as it melts, giving flat iron and charred flavors at the same time.

The material is very durable and design makes it easy to pull across different terrain. These wheels are a much nicer upgrade weber portable gas grill over the Q Series Cart Wheels. My first experience with the Weber was to test it out at a family picnic in the park.

Easy to clean; the porcelain-coated grates lift right out, and the burner area can be thoroughly cleaned without removing the burner. I bought an accessory griddle that replaces one of the two grates, which makes it a snap to cook eggs, pancakes, and other stuff when you don’t want dripping into the burner. I typically cook easy dishes and only for me, so the single burner is adequate and keeps things simple.

Some of the grills we tested featured just one knob, used for both igniting the grill and controlling the strength of the flame. (Of course, to properly ignite any gas grill, you must ensure the propane tank is open). All portable grills, in our experience, struggle to control their internal temperature. Not surprisingly, this grill doesn’t offer the control of full-size grills. This is not to say that it cannot be controlled, but that it will likely take a bit of a learning curve until you figure out how to do so. Temperature control tends to run away if this grill still has room to heat, i.e., it has yet to achieve its maximum temperature.

The Big Green Egg is a Kamado-style cooker (Kamado is a Japanese word that roughly means “stove”), which makes it much more than a grill. The ceramic construction weber kettle bbq retains heat and turns it into a portable oven as well. The MiniMax Big Green Egg is identical to its larger cousin in nearly every way, but smaller.

But, crucially, the GoBQ also performed quite well during the cooking tests. The grill is bigger than it seems, with 196 square inches of grilling area. It was actually bigger than several other grills I tested that didn’t fold up nearly as compactly. The stainless steel grates take a little more work to clean than cast iron, but not a herculean effort by any means. The firebox pops out for easy emptying, but the handle bolts make removing it without tipping a little difficult. The grill has no lid for cooking, as the top consists of a storage compartment and cutting board.
