A built-in stand on the lid provides space to store your mobile device. With Trailmate Marine, nothing gets in fun’s way when you’re out on the water. One of the major selling points of the , in our eyes, is the myriad of features that come standard with this cooler.
Since there is only one size to work with (70 quarts), we decided to vary how much ice we put inside. As you probably would expect, the tests using more ice did better. The core metal parts of these coolers are made of marine-grade strength aluminum. This material provides very good strength and is rust-resistant while still managing to stay relatively lightweight.
Also, despite all of these additional features, you will still find that the Trailmate is typically more affordable than a similarly-sized Yeti. If you go with the Trailmate Liddup or Trailmate Marine models you will only have a single color to choose from. The Liddup comes in a gray/red combo igloo water cooler and the Marine comes in white (similar to all of Igloo’s other marine-inspired products). The combination of the aggressive wheels and the rigid exposed metal makes for a very tough and intimidating look. And the layout of this cooler is unique and is sure to stand out from the crowd.
As always the ambient temperature and how often you open the cooler will dictate how long the ice will stay. Though at first glance the Trailmate looks like a great deal, we’re not so sure. Its wide wheels and high clearance help it navigate a variety of challenging terrain, but the performance of this cooler in insulation and particularly its lackluster durability leaves us wanting more. But if wheels and features are what you’re after and a budget is what you’re on, the Igloo might be the right fit for your life.

If you plan on subjecting it to extreme conditions such as rolling it down a mountainside, you may find it lacking in sturdiness. In addition, a few users have requested an extra latch on the lid. While the absence of lid latches ensures easy opening, we suggest using a bungee cord or a similar item in the lockdown loops if you anticipate your cooler being overturned during use. It may require a firm push to securely close the lid as well.
