There’s also the bicycle overlanders (bike packing) that’s all the rage with the old ex-fixie kids. Got to seize the opportunity before they grow up and it’s too late. Raleigh actually revived their original chopper this year, and there are other companies making even, uh, choppier bikes that kind of resemble the Bishop’s design.
One was a bright green “Lambo” chopper that ill-fated family from New York created some time ago. The other was a toy from GenXers’ youth called the Green Machine that featured stick-controlled steering, allowing for incredible slides and drifts. I never realized how much the wheels were inspired by Saab soccer balls. Ogle’s Tom Karen (or Alan Oakley, if believe his side of the story) got the proportions and angular styling perfect in what appears to be a bicycle equivalent of Ogle’s funky Bond Bug car design.
If you overinflate, you run the risk of blowing the tube either while pumping or while
riding due to sudden or constant impact. This occurs when
the tube becomes squeezed between the rim and tire casing by hitting a bump with an underinflated wheel. Not only does
this damage the tire, it can also hurt the rim. Plus, flat tires slow you down and make you pedal harder, which is
just no fun. Having the right PSI in your bike tires can make a world of difference.
Though it folds into a compact package, it’s quite heavy at 62.5 lbs, so lifting it into a trunk or carrying it up a flight of stairs can be difficult. All that said, this value-oriented foldable model is a great option for anyone short huffy cruiser bike on storage or seeking a compact e-bike. In the early days of mountain biking, we used to size MTBs by the lengths of their seat tubes, as that would give someone a pretty good idea of what the standover height for a bike would be.
Without going into too much detail, bike size used to be determined by measuring specific parts of the bike, like the seat tube. However, over time manufacturers have decided to update their measurement system since bike geometries have changed considerably. While this is undoubtedly one of our favorite electric bikes on the trail, there are a few areas where the Levo was not the top performer. The SRAM Code R huffy mountain bike hydraulic disc brakes on this bike are far from our favorite, and the non-e-bike specific Fox 36 Rhythm fork also leaves a bit to be desired. The only information immediately available to the rider are the LEDs on the frame’s top tube showing the current support setting and remaining battery life.
My oldest desperately wanted one of the chopper-style bicycles that came out when he was about 12, 20 years or so ago. They were kinda expensive back then, so he ended up with a regular BMX bike. I really wanted a chopper bike, but the Schwinn Sting Ray, not a Raleigh Chopper. Raleigh was a girl’s three speed bike in my town and still is, at least if you are of a certain age. I especially wanted the Sting Ray with the steering wheel — they may have called it something different.
