10 Easy Bowhunting Pack Upgrades This Season

Wirecutter is the product recommendation service from The New York Times. Our journalists combine independent research with (occasionally) over-the-top testing so you can make quick and confident buying decisions. Whether it’s finding great products or discovering helpful advice, we’ll help you get it right (the first time). The Bindi lasted five hours during our battery tests, which was about half the time of the Spot and Astro.

(The “movement” setting is somewhere in between.) All three feel more like floodlights than the Spot, covering a wider (but shorter) portion of the ground in front of you. When you’re running, this is ideal because it illuminates your footpath. At 1.2 ounces, the Petzl Bindi is the lightest of our picks, past and present, and the difference is noticeable (our previous running headlamp pick, the Black Diamond Sprinter, weighed a little over 4 ounces). The Bindi uses a bungee cord instead of a thick headband. Many running headlamps include a strap that goes over the top of your head, which can be uncomfortable, but the Bindi’s cord manages to keep the headlamp secure without one.

Products offered through the Great Value brand are often claimed by Walmart to be as good as national brand offerings, but are typically sold at a lower price because of lower marketing and advertising expense. Walmart contends that all Great Value products are produced in the United States.[citation needed] Otherwise, the country of origin would be listed. The Bindi’s ozark trail canopy body swivels up and down on a plastic mount, which seems like it might be unstable (it wasn’t) but ends up being useful for aiming the light. The Bindi has one main, white LED and a smaller red LED. You can adjust the lens of the main light for proximity, movement, or distance. Proximity gives you a flood light, while the distance setting creates more of a spotlight.

Contact and glasses wearers are vulnerable in the woods. It’s easy to knock a contact out or lose your glasses in the fallen leaves. Without my corrective lenses, I’m definitely not shooting a buck, so I always keep a spare set in my backpack. I carry all of the following bowhunting “bonus gear” myself.

Avoid the left side to stay out of the heavy rough, deep bunker, and the lake. A perk of hiking lesser-traveled trails are fewer (or non-existent) permits and parking fees. The Ozark Trail does not have permit, parking, or registration requirements for its trail sections. Wetlands give way to ridgelines at the start of the Blair Creek section. The 26-mile route follows Blair Creek south as it carves down a valley through oak-hickory-pine forest before merging with the emerald waters of the Current River. Here the 30-mile Current River section picks up, following the river for two miles before veering south toward Stegall Mountain.

Favor the right side on your tee shot as bunkers protect the left side of the fairway on this par 4. A right-sided approach will also give you the best angle into the green which is guarded by a large bunker on the left side with plenty of room to miss on the right. With access to the Ozark Trail available year-round, hikers will need to prepare differently for each season.
