There aren’t many other options out there with such a high carrying capacity, this many features, and low weight at any price range. The Cooler Quad’s weight capacity is a staggering 325 lbs, which is about as substantial a construction as you’re going to get out of a chair in this price range. Between the integrity of its build and the wide, solid feet and base, you can throw the Cooler Quad on most any approximately level surface. I found that the hardest part about using the chair was deciding how I wanted to stock the cooler. All of our chairs are designed to be enjoyed outside, which means they can withstand some level of wind, rain, and other elements. That said, some are sturdier than others, and some have thick fabric seats that will need to be fully dried before being packed away to prevent mildew.

Again, nothing broke on this chair during our few months of testing, but we are skeptical of its longevity.

Though it’s one of the least expensive chairs we tested, we’re still not sure it’s worth it. Lackluster performance and a cooler that’s only moderately useful but surprisingly in the way make us feel like there are much better options out there, even if the chair and cooler have to be separate. Although they’re designed with camping and backpacking in mind, camping chairs are more versatile than you may think.
The box-shaped cupholder is a little roomier than the round cupholders on the Coleman and the L.L.Bean Base Camp chairs—better for stubby water bottles or mugs of hot chocolate around the campfire. We found that the cheaply constructed Walmart chair had a cupholder that was too small for a soda can, or any of the hard-plastic or metal water bottles that the kids we know brought on a camping trip. This Coleman camping chair also did a great job staying dry when the sun came out, and I started to sweat. It never managed to soak through, though I doubt that would be the case in any kind of rain. As is the case with many mass-manufactured chairs, there tends to be some variance in quality over the years. I haven’t experienced any issues with mine despite pushing the weight limit and the cooler capacity up to the limit, but there is enough evidence floating around to question the integrity of the joints. If you’re after a novelty chair with an included cooler, you’ve found it.

The Coleman Cooler Quad isn’t for trekking miles down the trail, but at the very least, you can throw it across your back on a sling and have your hands free to carry a few extra things to the campsite.
