Schwinn Mendocino Adult Hybrid Electric Cruiser Bike

The Coston DX claims to have a range of up to only 45 miles, but in my experience it was actually well short of this. The Schwinn Coston DX is, for all practical purposes an around-town commuter e-bike that gives the impression that it’s supposed to be used somewhat ruggedly because of its sturdy appearance and build. Available in both step-through and traditional layouts and intended to suit riders within a general height range of 5-foot-4 and 6-foot-4, the Coston seems to be largely geared toward families.

In the event a replacement is needed, the motor is easy to replace as part of the wheel. This makes it easy for riders that are new to e-bikes. The fully assembled bike appeared larger than the display photo had led me to expect.

Wrapping the front wheel is a decent enough fender, though it terminates a bit higher in the rear than I’d like for the wet Seattle winters (road spray). Surprisingly few websites seem to have actually gotten around to riding the thing when it came out. Most of the reviews seem to be “paper reviews,” with a few reviews written by people who had never ridden an electric bike before, rode it briefly, and came away impressed (not a high bar). The Schwinn Ridgewood launched recently in the electric bike market.

They seem to be quite strong units, and I wouldn’t expect any problems with them, ever. It’s using an internally geared rear hub with a straight chainline, well protected inside a plastic housing to keep it clean and to keep you clean. They sweep back at a ~30 degree angle, which is very unusual for most bikes. They feel like they’re almost in your lap while riding, which is a weird feeling.

After you crank it on (okay, there’s no cranking involved — just a button press), you’ll feel it kick in after maybe five seconds. It’s a bit jarring the first time or two, but that’s par for the course, and you’ll warm up to it quickly. Once the electric’s on, there are three modes of assistance to choose from on that left control panel — flat, downhill, and hill climbing.

This bike comes equipped with front, rear, and bottom lights. The front and rear lights are attached to the fenders while the bottom schwinn mountain bike lights are part of the battery itself. If it’s a bright night and you just want some visibility, the bottom lights work well.

Deck the halls with bikes, helmets, and accessories for every rider on your list. Prices for e-bikes currently on the market can vary widely. Here at Schwinn, we worked hard to develop a high-quality ride schwinn mountain bike that won’t break the bank. Plus, we believe in our bikes and back them up with one of the best warranty programs around. Electric bikes are very similar to analog bikes – with a few key extras of course!

When I first started riding electric Schwinns, I was largely limited to cruiser e-bikes. But with several new commuter-specific e-bikes like the Schwinn Coston CE that I recently tested, this household bicycle name is making a big move on the wider e-bike market. When it comes to buying things in the 21st century, we seem to have an embarrassment of riches. With so many choices before us, human behavior specialists have observed us succumbing to “paralysis by analysis,” meaning having so many options available makes it difficult to make any decision at all.
