Is the instant tent a camping nightmare? colemaninstanttent coleman resolved Ask MetaFilter

The main structure isn’t the worst, with the entire tent made of 150D polyester and all seams sealed. However, the zippers and the mesh netting are poorly made, and the bag will not last more than a season before it rips or springs a leak. The poles are made from aluminum, but many moving plastic pieces hold them together. For pros, I found the Coleman 10-Person Instant Tent much easier to set up than regular 10-person tent, taking anywhere between 30 to 90% less time. After about 3 hours of light rain, I noticed that no water seeped through the bathtub flooring, and it was still dry, which was great. So, if you have this tent, I recommend putting the zippers higher up where it’s more protected by the rainfly, instead of lower down, where water can seep in.

I found the stitching to be pretty consistent with no huge holes, although you can see some light coming in through the seams. If there are no bugs, you can increase ventilation by leaving the hinged door open, and also by unzipping the other door, rolling it up and clipping it to the side right coleman cooler here like this. The hinged D-door measures about 50 by 34 inches in dimensions, and is only about 47 inches from the ground to the top of the door, because the side walls aren’t really that vertical. This Coleman 10-Person Instant Cabin Tent has 2 doors, one at each width of the tent.

We’ve envied our friends Kim and Kent’s instant setup tent the last couple of times we’ve camped with them. While instant setup feels like cheating, Heather and I have lost so much time to unfolding, threading and securing poles in fading light that we thought it was time we pampered ourselves. Last year I bought a Coleman 8 Man Instant Tent, since I usually camp alone it looked like a good product. I spent three weeks going up the Arkansas river valley in Colorado from Salida to Leadville prospecting for gold. The first day I set the tent up the wind blew it over while I was setting it up, 3 “Knuckle” joints broke instantly, they are a part of the tent poles that allow the tent to “pop up”.

The mattresses that I used in this tent are slightly smaller than queen size, but almost queen sized (give or take a few inches). Even so, these 4 mattresses take up almost the entire tent, with barely any space leftover for camping gear. Inside the Coleman Instant Tent package, I got the carry bag (black with red handles), tent body (grayish black), a room divider (blue & black), and the rainfly (green). For those cloudless summer nights, this could make for an attractive option for families in search of low-cost camping; however, there are still several competitive options out there at similar price points. Going camping can be a great way to relax and disconnect from the stresses of everyday life.

So, if you are planning a group camping trip, this tent is a no-brainer. Your fellow campers will love the ease of setup, ample space, and protection from the elements. Some campers might find the Wawona 6’s footprint unwieldy in smaller campsites, or they might simply prefer a tent with a more straightforward design.
