Coleman Instant Tent 6 Review: Best Camping Tent Review

With plenty of interior space, near-vertical walls, and a gigantic vestibule that could accommodate a golf cart, the Wawona feels more like a tiny home than a tent. Coleman makes no dedicated footprints for its tents—the idea being that the polyethylene is tough enough not to need one. (Still, we suggest that you buy a groundsheet.) The tent has two small, internal pockets—fewer than on any of our other picks—and a loop at the ceiling center to hang a small, lightweight light. The tent weighs just 16 pounds, less than any other family tent we tested for this guide. Like the Mineral King 3, the Tungsten 4 has a mesh canopy, though the opaque polyester part of its walls go higher, and provide more privacy, than the Mineral King’s.

The Base Camp, by contrast, has four full-size aluminum struts woven throughout it, somewhat like a basket, plus an additional brow pole that frames the front entrance and supports the larger of the coleman cooler two vestibules. The Base Camp also offers more privacy compared with our other picks—with or without the rain fly. For this testing process, I focused on three four-person tents in my backyard.

They are quick to set up with very little effort making the set up process less frustrating than a standard tent. Regardless of the too-long poles, I found this setup to be the most complicated. The tent initially pops up and the hubs all locked into place quite easily. My challenge was with the three interior poles that need to be placed alongside and over the door to give the tent more structure. The four person tent is just under $100, and the two person is just over $50.

I felt the most comfortable in this tent in the hot summer days, compared to my other 10-person tents. After about 15 to 30 minutes of light rain, I noticed that water started seeping in through the inverted seam connecting the black fabric of the tent body to the bathtub flooring, because it has not been seam taped. Apart from the roof, this Coleman 10-Person Tent has 5 windows and 2 doors, almost all of which are pretty massive, allowing for plenty of ventilation when it’s not raining. To accommodate 10 people in this tent, it’s almost shoulder-to-shoulder sleeping, although there’s some space down the middle for a little bit of camping gear.

Tent body is made of coated polyester brought together with anti-wicking thread, webbing, and zippers. Heather and I have been camping now just shy of five years, and in that time, we’ve owned coleman instant tent four tents. Fall scenery is nearing its peak across the U.S., and one of the best ways to immerse yourself in the season’s kaleidoscopic views is to camp right under the arboreal canopy.

You could give this tent a knock for its weight, coming in at 18.2 lbs, and a ding for the bag size — packing this one back up did take a little extra smushing, but it wasn’t too bad. I agree with the last reviewer…tent looks good, setup is really nice, but the plastic corner brackets break way too easy, metal ones and this tent would be awesome. I like the weatherctec system, on most Coleman tents seems they stay dry even in heavy rains. How does this Coleman 10-Person Instant Tent compare to other similar tents though? Well, here’s a blog post where I bought, tested and compared 6 of the best 10-person tents. After about 3 hours of light rain, all the fabric of the main tent body (both the blue and black fabric) was still dry, which was great.

The tent body is permanently fixed to the frame, and the six poles are telescoping, which makes the setup a breeze. Near-instant set-up aside, the Coleman 4-Person Instant Cabin Tent is also a fan-favorite choice because of its sturdy design. For extra protection from the elements, you can buy the Instant Cabin Tent with a rainfly; this bundle is also on major markdown for October Prime Day at 41 percent off.

Those planning an epic camping trip with a group of friends or family are going to need something truly spectacular to call your temporary home under the stars. As an avid camper who has literally pitched tents in all sorts of environments, from serene lakesides to rugged mountain peaks, I couldn’t resist trying these grand shelters. And, finally, after extensive testing, where I braved the elements and lived to tell the tale, I am thrilled to unveil my handpicked selection of 10-person tents. Its walls are 75-denier polyester fabric (tougher than the Wireless 6’s 68-denier polyester and the same as the REI Co-op Base Camp’s) that extends about two-thirds up the tent’s sides, and then is topped with mesh. The partial fly does a great job of keeping rain out of the upper, mesh areas, and cleverly placed vents maintain airflow so it never feels too stuffy.

Even so, you should, ideally, stake down each corner securely; in some crowded campgrounds, however, finding a flat spot with soil soft enough to do that can be difficult. A tent that requires staking to stand up—especially a larger, six-person tent—is unwieldy, and it’ll be impossible to set up on a hard surface such as blacktop or on raised wooden tent decks. A full rain cover, two vestibules, and an extra-sturdy pole structure make this the best choice for couples who want to get outside in any weather. It’s pricey, though, and unless the other couples’ tents we recommend, it doesn’t include a footprint. Easy to set up and pack away, the Mineral King 3 is a lightweight, two-door tent with a generous footprint and a sturdy dome shape.

If you are camping alone or with a partner, a smaller tent may suffice. On the other hand, if you are camping with a family or a group of friends, you will definitely need a larger tent to provide ample space for everyone to sleep comfortably. When it comes to planning a camping trip, one of the most important decisions is choosing the right SUV camping tent. As an avid camper, I have learned that the type of tent you select can greatly impact your camping experience. With so many options available, it can be overwhelming to make the right choice. However, by considering a few key factors, you can ensure that you choose the perfect SUV camping tent for your needs.
