Coleman RoadTrip Classic LX Grill Unboxing and Review

Also, the lid does not close all the way so it’s harder to melt cheese on a burger. Even with the lid down 80 percent of the way, there is not much room for items taller than a few inches. © 2023, Fortune Media IP Limited All rights reserved. The Coleman Camp Propane Grill lasts up to 2 hours on high with one 16.4-ounce propane cylinder (sold separately). The Coleman gas grill sports an extremely impressive 285 square inches of cooking area. The one drawback is that it is not a charcoal grill, which means you are stuck with having to purchase propane tanks. The Coleman Roadtrip 285 may share the appearance of many wheeled portable grills, but it excels in cooking performance.

The holes in the burners are smaller than most, and the overall shape of the grill body is fairly aerodynamic and low-profile. We didn’t experience any issues while grilling food with this model on a windy night in the high desert at an elevation of 7,000 feet. One thing that we love about the Roadtrip 285 is its long handle. The Roadtrip 285 has large plastic wheels coleman camping that easily roll over desert dirt and rocks, and the process of folding or unfolding the legs is super easy. Overall I find the Coleman RoadTrip Classic LX is the perfect grill for Camping, RVing, day trips, and even as your main home grill. It is a solid, well built and good quality grill that should give you years of performance if maintained properly.

The included side trays are used to stabilize the base stand. When storing the stand, the trays remove and snap easily into the base top. One of my favorite selling points of this unit is the price. You can pick it up on sale from time to time, but even when it’s not on sale, you can find it priced well below $200. The image below includes ratings from before changes were made. Even with the old, negative reviews included, 83% of consumers still rate it at 4 stars or better.

Another point against it is that because it is so hot, there is a bit of a learning curve to getting the right temperature for cooking. I think it was designed to cook hamburgers and hotdogs at lightning-fast speeds, which it does well. For grilling anything else, you will probably want to have the temperature down quite low until you are familiar with how fast it can cook. As I mentioned previously, it can go from compact to completely set up and ready to light in less than a couple of minutes.

Several years back I found the Coleman RoadTrip series of grills. They have several models with different options and colors but they are all from the same mold.

Initially, there were many complaints regarding several aspects of the grill. However, it seems that Coleman has addressed many of these issues. Since 2008 or 2009, the majority of customers report being very happy with their purchase.

My favorite feature of this grill is what you can cook with it. Cook steaks on one side with a cast-iron grill grate, and sauté onions on the other side with an accessory griddle plate. Or, cook pancakes on one side and bacon on the other, without worrying about bacon grease invading your pancakes.
