Kent’s low-cost full-suspension mid-drive e-bike has Walmart moving on up

If you’re looking for an inexpensive ebike for casual weekend rides, the Kent Electric Cruiser demands consideration. The price means that it lacks some of the advanced features of many electric models, and even more basic ones like quick release, but it looks great and rides well. We are here to help and give you impartial advice on all matters related to electric bikes in Hastings. If they can swing it, I 100% recommend grabbing a second battery. It’s about the size of a small water bottle and easy to stick in your bag when the family goes on a ride.

Kids should be a certain age before they are mature enough to handle the extra power of an e-bike, even a low-power one like this. Now before I start getting disgruntled comments, let me start by saying this isn’t a small motorcycle – it’s a pedal-assist e-bike. The Kent Torpedo is the first electric bicycle that I know of designed specifically for children. And it’s so much fun (even for me as a full-fledged adult) that it surely won’t be the last one. The Shimano drivetrain shifted flawlessly between its eight speeds, and the mechanical disc brakes on the front and rear worked capably in dry conditions.

And the quick release seat post makes for easy height adjustment. Browse through other brands like Huffy, Mongoose, Decathlon, Titan and more. Find a collection of adult bikes that are a great choice to ride on country roads, trails, gravel paths or anywhere you want to ride. They come with oversized gravel-tread tires that take you over mixed surfaces. Look through a variety of adult bikes with features like raised position, speed, ergonomic saddle, height-adjustable stem, soft-touch grips and more. Explore a large collection of adult bikes to find the perfect one for you.

If bought at an outside retailer, be sure to have your receipt. If bought on our website, please have your order number on hand. If there are any issues with your bike, return it for a full refund or receive a replacement bike for free.

The front and rear mechanical disc brakes offer powerful and reliable stopping power, in all weather conditions. 700 x 40c hybrid tires offer a comfortable and stable ride, while the alloy adjustable stem and quick release adjustable saddle allow for a customized fit. The 350 watt rear hub motor provides a pedal-assisted boost that gives you the power you need to tackle any incline, while the lithium-ion battery delivers long-lasting power.

It can be a good option for those that want the utility of an electric bicycle but don’t have a lot of spare cash. But while Walmart is known for its super cheap e-bikes, the company has never offered higher-end e-bikes with nicer features like mid-drive motors. At least, not until now with the launch of Kent’s new mid-drive electric bike. The Kent Electric Cruiser’s 350W rear-hub motor was more than capable on the flat roads and bike paths around my home, easily reaching and staying at 20 mph. But when the bike was pointed uphill, the performance was much less impressive. With me pedaling and the power assist at maximum, my speed frequently dropped down into the single digits on steep hills.

At this price point, you’re going to have to deal with some compromises. I wish the bike came standard with thru-axles or quick-release kent road bike skewers for the wheels. If I ever got a flat on the road, it’s going to be that much more difficult to change the tire.

Sissinghurst is a brilliant place to visit – the house, gardens and estate are beautiful and well presented. With the electric bikes, it makes for a really great day trip from London (1hr on the train from Charing Cross and 45mins on the bike to Sissinghurst). Walmart has long offered an interesting array of low-cost electric bicycles. Some of the bikes have even dipped down into ultra-budget territory with prices below $400.

There’s also a 6-speed shifter that makes it easier for kids to climb hills in the proper gear, even without electric power. If the battery does die on a ride, the shifter definitely makes it more manageable to pedal. And yes, the Lectric XPremium is probably the best game in time now when it comes to mid-drives at affordable prices. For just a bit more at $1,799, the dual batteries, significantly higher power/speed, hydraulic disc brakes, and a pile of other features blow this Kent bike away. But Lectric’s model is also a folding fat tire e-bike and won’t fulfill the trail bike role that Kent’s offering here claims to satisfy. Electrek reports that the steel-framed Torpedo sports a 180W 24V rear hub motor with a 125Wh battery.
