Gear Closet: Mongoose Beast All Terrain Fat Tire Bike

They slowed my son’s riding down when needed but functioned as any mechanical brake set would. They are not hydraulic and even I could feel that when testing myself. The job is getting done but there is more arm pump and fatigue when wrestling more weight with a lower mongoose bicycle grade brake system. Mongoose made a sound decision considering the weight that a child must pedal. Having a wider gear range makes for a versatile bike that can conquer the terrain. To be honest, I don’t think my son has ever used a front derailleur until now.

Moreover, the fat tires kind of drag in the dirt, a shorter stem could slow down the steering too much, so maybe we will try it out and test for the long-term review. Really, this frame is most likely a back up bike for a family of enthusiasts that want their child to join the fat biking they do in the winter. While the Mongoose Argus Trail is trail worthy, there are other bikes that do trail riding better. Being the most affordable and easily installed on a wide variety of bike frames the BBS02 fails on many fronts when it comes to being installed on fatbikes. Despite these issues though, I did find myself enjoying the Beast far more than I would have expected.

Reliable braking performance and adjustable braking distance, providing sufficient braking forces even in harshest conditions, providing strong stopping power even in loost terrain. The Mongoose Argus Trail handled my excursions with ease. The bike carried my body weight well, did not flex, and mongoose bmx bike is durable. This bike will outlast my son’s use because of it’s strength and componentry. As you can imagine, my 70-pound child really struggles pushing 50% of his body weight uphill with the Argus. Mongoose utilizes house branded parts to cover contact points like the grips, pedals and seat.

6) Purchase a modification package from Doug at California E-bike and modify your own BBS02 to 100mm. This modification package does not require any special milling tools and can be done in any decent bike shop. The modification package is $499 plus $35 S/H available here and the tool package for doing the conversion is $345 plus $35 S/H found here. If you only want to do one conversion you can return the tool package for a $300 credit, but you must specify that when ordering the package.

To create multiple speeds on the Deadeye you can install an internal geared hub or CVT like the Rohloff or Nuvinci. Be aware that some geared hubs cannot take the power output of the BBS02. The N330 is only rated for 60Nm of force but the BBS02 can deliver 120Nm of force, a N171 is a much better option if you can find one as it is designed to withstand 120Nm of force. The electric bikes give riders the opportunity to going on long rides not worrying about hills or distance. Riders also can get as much or as little exercise as they want.

Hopefully some training will allow him to be able to climb on his own for some of the ride. Sticking to flat nordic type trails for fat biking in the snow might be our best bet. Taking the Argus out was a different experience than the norm and we both had fun. Mongoose has given the “go-ahead” to do a long mongoose fat tire bike term review to assess the handling and function of the Argus once winter comes. So if you’re curious about how the bike performs in the snow, stay tuned….. With just a little extra effort you can mount the king of middrive units to almost any fatbike and have a grin permanently attached to your face.
