Model E20, the Quick-Lite Jumbo Gas Lantern, with a built-on pump (left), and the Quick-Lite Poultry House Lantern, without a pump (right),both featured a 1 gallon fuel tank. Steel wool and a coil of asbestos “rope” inside the globe rest kept dust from clogging the air intake and fuel from dripping on the floor. Coleman made this model for their Sunshine Safety company (post 1923).

This model was produced for 10 years beginning in 1954 For the first couple of years the burner cap was ceramic. The lantern on the left is in Jim Fulmer’s collection. Monte Dodge’s 202, running (right), is dated Mar. ’57 and has a metal burner cap. The Charles Beseler Co., New York, made this 237 projector lantern.

The spring steel reflector rests against three of the uprights and the shiny inner surface reflects light from the mantles. The ventilator and mica globe were removed for this image. These two Quick-Lite lanterns are unusual because the pump is only partially mounted in the fount. The check valve can be seen between the pump and filler cap.

The brass sided, green painted fount is also characteristic of that time. Coleman’s first production of Models 220B and 228B was May, 1930. Until early 1934 all of the founts of these two models were stamped 220B on the bottom. These models coleman camping could be purchased with either a Pyrex (left) or mica globe (right). Details of the early construction of these models is shown below. We believe this lantern is a Model 221, a kerosene fueled version of their Model 220 above (McRae).

If you need to light a large area, this is the one you need. Other than that, I found that the LED lantern puts out enough light to accomplish most tasks. These Rayovacs are a good, long lasting battery, but are also affordable. You could spend more on name brands like Energizer or Duracell, but I think these work just fine.
