It’s the most anticipated classic in Captain Black. BURN EXPERIENCEThis is the true downfall of the Captain Black Blends. They smell nice in the pouch and while burning. However I’ve not had a bowl yet of any of these tobaccos without peterson pipes having to nurse a burnt tongue for a day or two. On top of that both the Original and Red required numerous relights to coax the fire along. The Gold if anything burned too well, which added to the tongue bite I’m sure.
Captain Black Original (Regular) is a mixture of Virginia, Burley and Black Cavendish with a distinctively warm, pleasantly sweet flavor and aroma. Try this great American classic -Captain Black Original. A silver and black color Pack, Captain Black’s Platinum mixture is composed of Virginia and Burley, combining the tobacco’s natural smoothness with a subtly sweet top note for an easy-smoking tobacco that’s great at any time. For this blend only, Golden Cavendish tobaccos are used and are reflected in the bright gold color. In general, the more flavorful but still mild tobaccos have been used.
I think the Gold is technically superior, but it’s lemony-vanilla taste is so close lemony Virginias like MacBaren VA No 1 that I’d be more likely to reach for the latter. The Cherry was not for me, but as my first cherry it was good enough that I’m intrigued to try other, hopefully more forgiving blends in that direction. Captain Black Pipe Tobacco has become one of the best selling pipe tobacco brands in America. I did have Seven Seas Original years ago and my general tasting notes are fairly similar but I can note that the mechanics of the MacBaren version was vastly superior. Captain Black Gold smells like cigarettes which you tried peterson pipes to cover up with dollar store vanilla body spray. TIN AROMACaptain Black Original has a rich and inviting aroma of vanilla, raisins, and milk chocolate. Pipes and Cigars does not sell products to anyone under the age of 21.
