Mendocino 2 Step-Thru Electric Bike

I’ve seen this level of components on electric cruisers that cost nearly twice as much. Speaking of trails, I found that the Schwinn EC1 is great for more than just nice bike lanes and smooth sidewalks. The decently large tires also make it a fun bike for nature trails and gravel paths. I wouldn’t want to take it off any jumps due to the lack of suspension, but it’s not really meant for that, either.

Visit friends or explore downtown with the Schwinn Marshall Step-Thru E-Bike. The 250-watt electric motor offers 7 different levels of powered drive or pedal assist, selected using the LCD screen and achieving speeds up to 20 miles per hour. Aluminum frame and wheel rims deliver lightweight durability while an integrated LED headlight illuminates the road for nighttime rides.

But Schwinn knows many riders want to go farther, so we developed higher capacity batteries that are super easy to install (you’ll only need a screwdriver). These additional batteries extend the riding distance up to 80 miles on both our Coston and Marshall series of bikes. One of the valid concerns raised by riders of e-bikes is the ability of their e-bikes to hold a charge and provide pedal assistance when they’re out for rides of longer distances. 18-speed drivetrain with twist shifter lets you adapt to your terrain, while mechanical disc brakes deliver all weather stopping power.

Schwinn’s electric bicycle line has significantly expanded over the last couple years. When I first started riding electric Schwinns, I was largely limited to cruiser e-bikes. But with several new commuter-specific e-bikes like the Schwinn Coston CE that I recently tested, this household bicycle name is making a big move on the wider e-bike market.

7-speed twist shifters offer smooth gear changes, mechanical disc brakes deliver all weather stopping power, and the alloy frame provides lightweight durability. It works by spinning the back wheel, creating the feeling of being pushed. A mid-drive motor powers the bike’s drivetrain instead of the wheel hub.

Our Coston and Marshall lines have an optional extended-life battery available that lets you go up to 80 miles per charge. I mostly used the motor in pedal-assist mode, though I will cover the throttle in the next section. The motor on this bike is very aggressive in that is starts up quickly with even the slightest movement of the pedal, and it goes hard.

This is a relaxed, upright cruiser that has the ability to handle a fairly wide range of riding trails. There’s nothing overly fancy about it, though I’d say the fact that it comes with built-in fenders and a rear rack is a nice feature. Many other e-bike companies charge extra for those parts. The Schwinn Ridgewood launched recently in the electric bike market. Overall, given the fundamental shift I have seen in my personal bike riding habits this past summer, I very much enjoy having an e-bike.

The alloy frame features a coil sprung suspension fork to smooth out bumps in the road or trail. A 7-speed transmission from Microshift also adds to the commuter street-cred, giving those in hilly areas the ability to run through schwinn dealers the gears on hills. It looks just odd enough for drivers to take a second look in a “what the heck is that thing? A second look is invaluable as a rider, where we’d often even be grateful for a first look from drivers.
