Peterson Pipes and Accessories

We’ve seen enormous change in our century-and-a-half of pipemaking. Our retail store and factory have moved locations and our ownership has changed chacom tobacco pipes hands over the decades. Awhile ago Jeff and I were sorting through the bowls in our collection and pulled out eight Peterson’s bowls that were dirty and stemless. A friend referred us to a contact named Silas Walls, of Walls Pipe Repair in Wallace, Idaho, USA as he seems to have a good supply of original Peterson’s stems. Our friend has had him fit stems for some of his Petes and was very happy with the work. We made contact with him and sent him eight bowls for restemming. A few weeks ago, I received an email from a customer, Ted about some pipe work for him. He had three pipes that he said needed different things and offered to send some photos.

The idea behind this is; the smoke leaving the smaller diameter and entering the larger diameter will expand and slow down, thus dropping more moisture before entering your mouth. To some people the cleaning of system pipes can appear to be problematic, in fact they are in most cases easy to clean. A pipe cleaner dipped in alcohol will do a fine job of removing any dried tobacco juices in the mouthpiece or shank. If there is any difficulty with the pipe cleaner accessing the narrow Plip, I would suggest using the finer narrow pipe cleaners made by Falcon, which are still widely available.

Virginia smokers will notice it more than English or aromatic users. I sometimes have applied a bit of activated charcoal powder to my pipe mud, or even applied a spot of the maple syrup / charcoal carbon cake on top of the dried pipe mud to good effect. For me over the years, I’ve taken to leaving a strong pocket flashlight next to my pipe racks and ashtrays, and whenever I dump out the ashes—especially on a pipe I’m breaking in—I take a look inside the bowl.
