The stock brakes kinda suck too so I was thinking about upgrading to Shimano hydraulic brakes in the future. Only thing you’d need to retain is the same cassette (for chain length and gearing compatibility) Hub width, axle size and disc size. Is “mullet” in this context referring to wheel size? Just to add – the wheel size isn’t important but the frame size is. If you’re feeling a bit stretched out on the Raleigh it could be that the frame to too big for you. Eg I’m 1.66m and ride a medium 29, but I can also ride a small depending on the frame geometry.

There is a low level shimano hydraulic disc brake kit that is SO NICE compared to the cable disc brakes. I did it to both of the maluses. He did a good video recently on some more budget parts (including hydraulic disc brakes) as well as he has been playing with a Walmart MTB recently. I bought 2 mongoose malus’ses. Got 2 for the wife and myself.
The stock seat was very narrow and hard. That is the seat I bought to replace the stock torture device. The new seat is about 13.5″ inches wide and the horn is a lot shorter. It is a lot more comfortable. As far as I can tell, the Malus and Dolomite are essentially the same bike, just with different rims and colors.
Maybe even a better bar (slight riser) or a shorter stem. At 1.77m I’d think you’d be better suited to a medium frame. If it’s used you may need to spend a bit of cash getting it fixed up, but it’ll last far longer and be a much better ride.
