You realize that the fly is pre-attached to the frame and you raise them instantly. This is currently completely unique system on the market. It can be described as an semi-instant system because the roof/fly is with a pre-attached frame, and the remaining elements are then attached to it separately. Compared to competitors like Core and Coleman, Ozark Trail’s weather protection isn’t as solid.
We had great weather – not too hot and not too cold – but it did rain for about 5 minutes. My friend chose to not put up his rain fly betting on the perfect weather to continue while enjoying the stars at night. During those five minutes of rain, he was a little more stressed as the risk of a wet sleeping bag had not been completely mitigated and he rushed back to the campground. True, I wasn’t able to remove the rain fly to watch the stars or let the wind ventilate my tent, but I was able to enjoy the day hikes without any sort of worry.

Generally speaking, if you go into buying an Ozark Trail tent with reasonable expectations, you won’t be disappointed. None of these tents are designed to hold up in a serious thunderstorm. They’re not built for heavy winds, and they certainly aren’t made to stand up to heavy snow. This shelter may be the least expensive in our roundup, but it still packs some sweet features worth noting. Our favorite is the “storage locker” which gives you a protected place to store items like muddy shoes outside the tent, but can also be accessed from inside using a second zipper. It’s a great spot to stash your “middle of the night bathroom break” shoes and anything else you don’t want taking up space inside the tent.
Layout wise is virtually identical to the Core Instant Cabin we evaluated for our 10 person tent roundup, but delivers those same massive interior dimensions for about $100 less. As with any tent you need to glue the seams to prevent leaks. One summer we went camping and for three days in ozark trail canopy rained and rained. To anyone who needs a good size tent that is leak proof, this is it. We used this tent a few times and lost the rain fly, first time we used it rained and didn’t have problem but the zipper broke and got stuck. The second time we used I can’t find a new rain fly anyway.
I bought this tent for a sort trip with three small children. The price was reasonable, the size was wonderful, the set- up easy. We discovered during set-up that the rain fly was torn and than discovered that the zipper for the front door was also defective, but Walmart replaced the tent for us with very little fuss. Upon initial set up in the backyard, I was very impressed.
