The Weber Traveler operates on a portable-sized 14.1 or 16.4 ounce propane cylinder (sold separately). This Stealth Edition Weber Traveler features a sleek, blacked-out finish. This smaller Weber kettle comes equipped with only one vent, located in the lid. However, the circular, 8,500-BTU tube burner provides even heat across the enamel-coated cast iron grates, and all of the food we tested cooked evenly, with no excessive charring or lack thereof. The grill runs hotter with the lid down than the temperature indicated on the built-in thermometer, and there were minimal flare-ups in cooking. Cleanup is easy; using a grill brush on the grates and wiping down the inside of the lid to prevent grease buildup did the job. This is a reliable compact grill, and it’s a workhorse that can be used indoors or outdoors.
The middle dial controls a burner that spans the length of the whole grill, while the other two dials control an additional burner on each side. The Roadtrip 285 produced better results from our white bread heat mapping test than any other grill we’ve tested. Though the Weber Traveler does not feature a triple burner configuration, it does feature an accurate thermometer on the lid and a single adjustable dial that offers a wide range of settings. Really, the only caveat with this top-of-the-line grill is that it is heavy, weighing 49 pounds, which limits the user group to those that can lift 50 pounds.
The Napoleon Travelq is the full-featured grill-on-a-cart you need to wheel out onto the sand. Its dual-sided cast-iron grates can hold up to 18 burgers at a time, with its nearly 14,000 BTUs of power split between separately controlled left and right burners. That means you can, say grill chicken at lower heat on one side while you char asparagus on high on the other, or leave one side off completely for successful indirect grilling.
When on these excursions, we took into account things like the overall size, weight, construction materials, and availability of wheels, stands, or lid latches.
