We’re always looking out for keen riders who are planning trips so we are open to receiving sponsorship proposals to consider. We recommend noting down your frame number (located on the underside of the Bottom Bracket) and using one of the many online services available. Each of our Reserve and collect stores are expert and keen cyclists, and on hand to help you collect your order or answer any cycling questions you may have. If you want more control over exactly what components your bikes is built with, both of these are available to buy as just the frameset. Our team of experts put in hard miles testing cycling tech and will always share honest, unbiased advice to help you choose.

Over time your hand might get tired (and good luck trying to carry it up stairs) but for the money it gets the job done and could be a solid option for someone willing to screw around a bit and who also fits the frame. Note that when I was test riding this bike I bumped my knee on the battery when swinging my leg over the back. Some of the low-step ProdecoTech bikes like the Stride R help eliminate this concern. These are Genesis’ entry-level road bikes and are the cheapest in their range. The geometry is a little more upright, making for a more comfortable and less twitchy ride.

I listed “no mounting points for cargo” as a con but with the limited support here and somewhat delicate battery interface I think they made the right call. Almost the antithesis of the Day One, the Flyer is sublime in its simplicity. It employs easily adjustable rim brakes, a single 42×17 gear, and it has mudguards to keep the spray off. Although the frame is steel, it’s relatively lightweight with a carbon fork and no excess components weighing it down. There are, however, a number of points that make this a more versatile bike than the carbon alternative.

The frame has internally routed cables for better aerodynamics and a wide section down tube for better torsional stiffness. The greatest restriction on how fast you can go when pinning singletrack is the tyres, yes they are fast rolling but they lack bite, something with greater cornering grip would certainly show off bikes handling better. The wheelset is lightweight genesis bicycles with an internal rim width of 19mm that will take good sized rubber which means you could add some float to the ride with some high volume tyres. The Core 26.4 came fitted with 2.2 Mountain Kings, the originals not the much improved Mountain King II. 500 watt direct drive motor is quiet and capable but offers less torque and weighs more, no regen modes.

Essentially an aluminium version of the Croix de Fer, the CDA features a similar plethora of mounts and wide clearances but comes in at a significantly lower price. Part of this is down to the different frame material, but cheaper components are also a factor. For those interested in dipping their toes into racing, or just want a sportier feeling bike, the Zeal range is Genesis’ entry level carbon option. The geometry is more aggressive than the endurance-oriented Equilibrium, but not quite as ‘head-down bum-up’ as the dedicated racers that are the Zeros. Unstable due to steep long travel shock angle and high battery pack position. Relatively low price but tough to test ride as it’s primarily available only online…

Some practically remains, with downtube bottle bosses (useful for holding extra water or a tool keg) and discrete mudguard mounts. The frame is fully carbon and the cables are integrated into the frame for a cleaner look and better aerodynamics. An affordable, but heavy, folding electric bike with twist throttle only.

So many models are offered that it can be hard to choose exactly which bike is best for you. We’ve split this guide up into four large sections; road bikes, adventure bikes, cyclocross bikes, and utility bikes, detailing each of the bikes in the range and how they differ from the others. If you’re a dyed in the wool roadie or complete genesis bicycles ‘cross-head, you can jump straight to the section that interests you most. Ostensibly, this is a more budget-oriented version of the Vapour Carbon. Disc brakes remain present, but they have been changed to mechanical rather than hydraulic. The drivetrain is still a performance oriented 1×11 set up and, in all, this is still a competitive racing machine.

These bikes are designed for longer days out being able to handle heavier loads and rougher roads. Some bikes (such as the Fugio) are more oriented towards the rough stuff, whereas others (such as the Croix de Fer) are better suited to carrying loads. A rim brake version is available in addition to the disc option and both come with Shimano Ultegra 2×11 groupsets. The maximum tyre size on bike is 28c, typical for rim brake set ups but relatively narrow for a bike with discs.
