S-100 is certified for all applicable safety and equipment standards, including CE, UL, KBA, EMC, and more. A dad has combined 70 disposable vape batteries to convert his “un-stealable pink ladies’ bicycle” into an e-bike capable of reaching speeds of up to 15mph. A new partnership with SPIN, an electronic bike and scooter service, will provide 100 electric bikes and 100 electric scooters within the city of Kent. The e-bikes and e-scooters will be available to the entire Kent community. Walmart has long offered an interesting array of low-cost electric bicycles. Some of the bikes have even dipped down into ultra-budget territory with prices below $400.

Anyone under 160 lbs will LOVE this bike—my wife (5’7 and 130 lbs) is one of those people who is a perfect fit for this e-bike. I started riding mountain bikes when I was a teenager in Augusta, Georgia. When I say mountain bikes, I really mean a 90s Huffy 18-speed I bought from Walmart for $60 without a front suspension. A group of us kent hybrid bike would carpool out to a lake trail, then ride with reckless abandon, flying over the handlebars multiple times each trip. The Electric Cruiser offers three levels of electric assist, with a maximum boost of 20 mph. A very basic LED display indicates battery and power-assist levels but doesn’t include a speedometer or mileage counter.

Mid-drive motors, unlike hub motors, actually power the bike through the standard gears on a bicycle. Hub motors, on the other hand, are single-speed drivetrains that bypass the gears and chain altogether, allowing them to be controlled quite simply as there are no gears to worry about. This kent bayside cruiser is a gross oversimplification, but you can kind of think about it like automatic versus manual transmission cars, at least in terms of simplicity and ease of learning or use for the driver. Then one day, a fellow mountain biker asked if I wanted to ride his bike around the parking lot.

“When you are pushing towards the limit on those, it can fail, so my approach is over spec it, charge it slowly and don’t stress the batteries out too much. Mark credited his success to using so many batteries and stressed this is a key safety feature that ensures they are not being overworked. But when his electric bike stopped working in February this year, he started thinking. However, on Wednesday, April 13, when I drove by the University Inn, I was not pleased to see TWO scooters laying down in the middle of the sidewalk. With a front suspension fork that isn’t much to write home about but still works just fine, the bike is somewhat sporty. We built a classic front yard ramp and had fun seeing who could get the most air.

“If the cell gets hot you know it’s not good, but I haven’t had that so far with these vapes, they are pretty good,” Mark said. By charging them up and draining them, he was able to determine how much power they could hold and confirm they were the right spec. Happy with his working prototype, Mark is in the process of developing “stage two”, in which he plans to buy a proper casing for the batteries, so the wires are not sticking out. After narrowly avoiding being questioned by a neighbour, he set off on his maiden voyage to Sevenoaks, a few miles away, on May 22. He bought an “ordinary bike”, a seven-speed pink Cannondale Adventure 2, online and decided to convert it into an e-bike himself. Mark had had an e-bike since 2017 which he used on a daily basis to cycle to and from his office in Canary Wharf.

The first half was mainly uphill and the bikes performed magnificently. The last 7 miles turned into an obscure, unmaintained dirt/gravel downhill road covered in sticks, pinecones, sharp rocks, and other precarious tire-popping rubbish (along with a wild turkey I almost ran over). Somehow, we made it the whole 16 miles without a flat and with our brains intact. Not wanting to give up my precious gym time, I bought two electric pedal-assist bikes. I chose the Kent Electric Mountain Bike 27.5” from Walmart for a couple of reasons.

If a ride ends outside of a GeoZone, SPIN will email the user with a warning. SPIN will relocate bikes and eScooters throughout the day and ensure that they are parked in GeoZones. SPIN can be contacted to pick up or remove any eBikes(s) or eScooter(s) from campus and/or other Kent locations. Kent State kent electric bike University partners with SPIN to provide shared eBikes and eScooters that are available on campus and within the City of Kent for use by students, faculty, staff, and the community. Riding an eBike or an eScooter is a fast, easy way to get from class to class, run errands, and even a short commute.

On my second test ride, I tried out the short 3.4-mile singletrack trail that we ride each week. But I ended up popping both the front and rear tire tubes, probably due to my weight stressing the tubes. Popping a tube wouldn’t be so bad, except I had to walk the bike the remainder of the trail. Everything was going great until I encountered a 11%, 6-degree incline.

Mid-drive motors, on the other hand, are more costly to produce due to their more complicated design. That complication also makes them a bit more touchy, at least for new riders that aren’t used to shifting a bike. For our third eMTB trip, I chose a 16-mile gravel forest service road in nearby Helen, Georgia.

In all communication, please include the bike/scooter 7-digit license plate number and issue or reason for relocation. To see how much fun the Kent Torpedo e-bike is, check out my video review below! Then keep reading for my complete thoughts and testing (yes, I rode it too!). While the Electric Cruiser was lighter than most e-bikes I’ve tested over the years, I would still hate to have to haul it upstairs or lift it onto a car rack. I contacted Kent’s customer service about a different issue and an actual human being answered the phone after just a couple of rings. I’m confident if a customer had an issue, they’d quickly try to resolve it.
