I did a good bit of research before purchasing ours. Of course, I wanted something that would keep us warm. Mummy bags are very effective for keeping warm, but I am not comfortable in a confining bag. We bought two Ozark Trail 30-Degree Sleeping Bags. Keep children comfortable during nights in the tent inside the Ozark Trail Kids 2-lb Sleeping Bag. It is made from a breathable polyester material that keeps little one’s snug while they sleep.

I used this bag from February of 2002 to June of 2002 on the Appalachian Trail, and I still have it. The first night out it was less than 14 degrees F, and I had at least 50 nights under 40 degrees F. I can’t say I was warm, but I wasn’t shivering, freezing, or cold either, although I did wear 2 layers of clothing. I won’t ever buy an expensive sleeping bag after carrying this cheapo, unless I can find a cheap bag that weighs a lot less.

It’s sort of fragile, but very good for backpacking. The bag is machine-washable and the lightweight design fits easily in both the washer and dryer. These bags are perfect for a family camping trip or if your kiddo is heading to a sleepover. If they wanted to skimp on fabric, it should have been used on the outside and bottom of the bag!

The Ozark Trail 40-60F Sleeping Bag is highly durable, as it is lined with 100% polyester fabric both on the inside and outside. This polyester sleeping bag features two sleeping bags that can be zipped together. The zippers come along the whole length of the sleeping bag, ensuring you safety from insect bite or frost bite. This washable sleeping bag also has elastic roll-up straps that help you to fold and store it easily. We have stayed nicely warm while sleeping in the cold in this bag. Rated for 30-degrees, we have slept in it down to 13.

However, I used this bag two nights last weekend and found it was too cold on its own—lowest temp was 51 degrees each of those nights. I was in a large tent (admittedly, a smaller tent would have been better) with one other person. I had to add a fleece ozark trail sleeping bag sleeping bag for more insulation. Not only is it harsh to the touch, but noisy too. And every time you move your feet you get to hear the crinkle of the fabric on the bottom. The bag uses Climatech fill, a down alternative, making it very light.

Pairing these strategies together made it reasonably comfortable at that temperature. The bag on its own is very comfortable down to the 30-degree ozark trail backpack range. With the return of the colder weather, it is time to pull out our winter sleeping bags. Shopping for sleeping bags is overwhelming.
