It’s unique array of cutting-edge motion sensors guide users to the perfect brushing technique with multiple function brush heads. The unique 3D White whitening brush head imitates the shape of professional dental tools to gently polish away surface stains starting from day one, revealing a gleaming white smile. The Oral-B Pro 1000 electric toothbrush is a powerful and functional product with a lower price tag that really stands out. It has just one daily cleaning mode and a 2-minute timer that signals you to move mouth quadrants every 30 seconds. It has three cleaning modes, including sensitive and whitening, and comes with three different-sized brush heads for effective and comfortable use.

You can change settings as you brush, though we found it easier to take the toothbrush out, switch settings, and then resume brushing. The dark purple handle of our test model also showed toothbrush stains easily, but was no problem to clean. The pressure sensor will light up red if you go too hard or green when your pressure level is just right, and it’s easy to see your battery life and which mode you’re in via color-coded light on the handle display. The app itself is also packed with features, using AI to show you where you’re brushing in real time and when you’ve fully covered that area, then providing a score at the end of your brushing session.

We noticed much more debris coming out of our teeth with this toothbrush than with a manual. It’s easy to set up, though we had to check the manual on first use to know what the settings and lights meant. The handle is easy to grip and controls are easy to use, though you’ll need to take the toothbrush out of your mouth to adjust unless you’re very familiar with all the options.

It’s also worth noting that the handy timer buzzers only work when you’re not using the app. Studies suggest electric toothbrush users have healthier gums and less tooth decay than manual brushers. The Oral-B Smart Limited has smart technology that lets it track your pressure when you brush and automatically adjusts the pressure when the brush comes into contact with your gums. It has five settings, one of which is gum health, so every time you brush you can help treat your gingivitis or periodontal disease.

We included electric toothbrushes recommended by dentists and Select staffers. To help you brush for the full two minutes that dentists recommend, Genius toothbrushes also oral b toothbrush heads come with a built-in timer. This feature sends a short but obvious vibration into the brush every 30 seconds to tell the user that it’s time to switch quadrants.

The Oral-B iO electric toothbrush wooed us at CES 2020 with its smart pressure sensor and LED indicator lights, magnetic drive, 3D teeth tracking and mouth quadrant sensors. All that combined with the Oral-B app experience truly levels up the definition of a smart brush. Zoe Malin has been covering dental hygiene products for over a year at Select and has published guides about toothpaste, floss, teeth whitening products and more. For this piece, Zoe interviewed three dentists, researched dozens of electric toothbrushes and familiarized herself with the ADA’s guidelines.

As you move up the Oral-B range, the brushes become more expensive, but they do come with additional features and accessories. Our journalists combine independent research with (occasionally) over-the-top testing so you can make quick and confident buying decisions. Whether it’s finding great products or discovering helpful advice, we’ll help you get it right (the first time). We don’t recommend U-shaped (or mouthguard-style) brushes for kids or adults. It’s basic, with just one setting, but you do get a timer, with the brush pulsing every 30 seconds and switching itself off after two minutes. The Y-Brush turned heads and piqued interest at CES in 2017 and continued to come back to CES year after year.
