A Cooler Test Coleman vs Ozark Trail vs. YETI

You can expect the wheels to last a long time, which is great. s are similar to other more expensive brands in terms of looks. They have a fairly muted palette of colors (lots of greys, whites, and blues), and their coolers look pretty simple. You can’t personalize them or opt for bright colors or patterns. Some cooler companies, like YETI, allow you to customize your cooler with collegiate or sports team logos, but that isn’t the case here. Ozark Trail’s Premium Jumbo Tote is currently on sale for $29 at Walmart.

I made this purchase nine weeks prior to our vacation and the cooler is scheduled to arrive only days before we leave. That’s a little closer than I’d like but we need a better cooler. Unfortunately, I realized a little too late that I purchased the wrong size and the larger size won’t be available ozark trail canopy until after we leave for vacation. Our Coleman has been used and abused and has never leaked. Depending on what you’re using the cooler for, the leaky drain spout might not be a big deal. For us, however, we keep our cooler in our car while traveling and we often camp in bear country.

It can keep drinks cold for several days and the wheels on the bottom are great for hauling it from place to place. It has anti-microbial properties and it’s strong enough that a bear can’t break into it. Our favorite feature ozark trail canopy of the Ozark Trail Soft Coolers is their additional storage options. Every model will come with at least one separate zippered pocket and many will have multiple zippered pockets in addition to mesh side pockets.

The water turned warm in both coolers fairly quickly after the ice melted. This cooler claims that it keeps ice for more than 4.5 days in mild temps. We’ve found that in cooler temperatures, it keeps things cool for about 4 days but there isn’t any ice left after 4 days. On hot summer days when you can’t get any shade or coverage for the cooler or the van you can count on about 48 hours where there’s still a little ice.

The ice melted in the Coleman in 24 hours and the YETI in 48 hours. What I found most fascinating about this test is that the water in the YETI stayed cold for three additional days after the ice melted. The water was cold enough that had the gallon jugs been milk, we would have been able to drink out of them for three days after the ice melted. All-in-all, the YETI lasted for five days and the Coleman for one day. All Ozark Trail hard-sided coolers feature anti-skid feet on the bottom.

And the premium cooler backpack and cooler tote take this up a notch by having an EVA compression molded base. If you’re looking for a decent cooler with wheels, we’d highly recommend Ozark Trail. Although the soft-sided cooler may not be as durable as other brands, the hard-sided wheeled coolers are definitely comparable to more expensive options. Most soft coolers from this provider have a removable hard liner while the backpack cooler and the tote bag have an EVA compression molded base. They also have daisy chain attachment points, built-in bottle openers, thicker insulation, a compression strap and a 600 denier outer coating that’s easy to wash.
