Brother Scan and Cut Archives

Like Brother’s revolutionary auto-blade sensor technology. It automatically detects material thickness to cut precise custom and built-in patterns. Look no further than the ScanNCut DX SDX330D electronic cutting machine. The SDX330D is the only electronic cutting machine on the market with a fun light blue Disney cosmetic, included Disney designs, and a built-in scanner (up to 600 dpi for the scan to USB function). The Brother ScanNCuts are craft cutting machines that can cut all manner of materials, including fabrics, paper, card, wood, vinyl and more. They are similar to the popular Cricut craft machines but have a built-in scanner and CPU, so you can create, save and cut projects in the Brother ScanNCut machine.

This is often a decider for choosing a Scan N Cut over other brands. If you are still considering between a Scan N Cut and a Cricut Maker there is a comparison here. Blade Sensor Technology with Auto Blade Auto Blade detects the thickness of material. Dies can take up a lot of room whereas all of the cutting files on the ScanNCut are digital. This means they are stored on the machine itself or on your computer or  a USB.

I remember how much I researched to work out which model I would purchase. I aim to continue to update this page as new information is available. The biggest difference to look at when purchasing is the screen size of the SDX85. Both the SDX325 and the SDX225 have a 5″ screen BUT the SDX85’s screen size is only 3.47″.

You can read more of how this works in our ScanNCut SDX2200D review (it’s the same model but in the UK) where our writer found an excellent money-saving feature. The ScanNCut will scan leftover materials and cut projects to fit and make best use of these leftovers, so you never waste material again. Now you can recreate the magic of Disney in your own home!

Since posting about the Artspira app last week more information has popped up, including a surprise “new” Scan N Cut model to sit alongside last year’s US release. Free cloud-based design application available for Windows and Mac OS. Use with a USB wire, wirelessly from your computer, or transfer design files va USB flash drive.

Recently Brother announced a new mobile app called Artspira that will allow you to create, edit and transfer designs directly to your Scan N Cut machine. The recommended material thickness is 0.1 mm to brother machine 0.3 mm for paper and 0.2 mm to 3 mm for fabric. Internet connectivity is available so that you can utilize Brother CanvasWorkspace for flexible remote work through PC, laptop, mobile device or tablet.

For one thing, there’s nothing better than a shiny new crafting machine. This one makes me particularly happy, though, because I know it suits my needs and will allow me to make things I’ve had on my list for a long time. Ok… so here is the summary and you can scroll through for photos and any details I have to add for each material. I got this version of the Brother ScanNCut (affiliate link)- it came with the mats and tools shown in the unboxing video. There is a “Blue” version, too- and it comes with an extra mat, pen holder and pens, and extra images.

Viewing the models below, the only one I would caution about is the SDX85 which has a very small screen that would drive me nuts after using my CM900 and DX2200D. This may not be an issue for you and the price for this brother machine model is very tempting to those on a very tight budget. The next step in how to choose which model of Scan N Cut to buy is to look at the features. Other store items’ shipping rates are based on amount purchased.

The Brother ScanNCut range works alongside a free cloud-based design application called CanvasWorkspace, which is available for PC and Mac (but not Android). So, crafters, you are able to design when and where you want, then send your projects wirelessly from your computer to your ScanNCut or transfer them via USB flash drive. The ScanNCut SDX900 allows crafters to precisely cut out designs of any shape in just a few simple steps. This particular model comes with over 680 built-in designs and seven fonts, so when working with CanvasWorkspace, the possibilities are endless. The bottom line is the ScanNCut SDX2200D is a powerful and versatile machine that does everything out-of-the-box without the need for further spending on accessories.
