This smaller Weber kettle comes equipped with only one vent, located in the lid. The lack of airflow meant we couldn’t keep the coal bed lit throughout a single cook, leaving us with pale burgers and undercooked chicken. We appreciate the stable tripod base, which keeps the grill steady on uneven ground. And we give the Jumbo Joe points for having an ash catcher, even though it’s just a flimsy aluminum pan. But at least there’s a barrier to keep hot embers from falling on the grass or your deck. At 20 pounds, the Grill2Go X200 is also 10 pounds lighter than the Weber Q 1200, even though it fits the same amount of food (six burgers, or a whole cut-up chicken).

In my testing, the grill heated quickly (hit 500 degrees F in minutes) and stayed hot. Controlling the temperature — while not perfectly precise — was no real issue for me and shouldn’t be a hindrance for the type of grilling most people do. While it’s billed as a portable model, the Traveler is large enough to be your permanent, everyday home grill. The Traveler is not much easier or more difficult to clean than your standard gas grill. There’s a drip tray to catch the worst of it and you can easily remove the grill grates to clean the inside of the firebox or hull of the grill. Once assembled, it was time to give the Weber a go at its most important duty.
Plus you have the added chore of snuffing out hot coals and emptying ashes after grilling. Portable grills aren’t just for camping, picnicking, and tailgating; they’re also great for city and apartment dwellers with limited outdoor space. And they can be a good option if you don’t have the budget for a full-size grill.
Well-designed portable gas grills will produce evenly-cooked food with a solid sear and grill marks. During our testing, we even found some could rival standalone models for versatility. (The Coleman RoadTrip X-Cursion, for example, excellent in direct and weber portable grill indirect heat cooking methods, making a good choice for searing steaks and baking fish alike). Cuisinart is better known for kitchen appliances than grills, so it makes sense this petite model is designed with an eye toward food prep, not just grilling.
Two separate burners allow for multiple types of cooking (like searing and indirect heat), as with a standard-size grill. It gets hot and has, as one tester noted, “highly responsible” temperature control. In our tests, it produced “nice golden-brown” steak with “defined grill marks” and a “good crust.” During one test, even a delicate fish filet did not stick to the grates. Another tabletop option, this portable gas grill from Weber was a standout for our testers, who named it the winner of the group, and even noted its performance rivaled standard-size grills. “This thing could be priced even higher and I would buy it,” a tester noted, although at under $300, it’s attractively priced as-is.
