Review: Coleman 8 Person Instant Tent

Adventure is moments away when you set up the lightweight Coleman® Flatiron™ 3-Person Instant Dome Tent. Pre-attached poles make setup a simple matter of unfold, coleman cooler extend and secure, so your tent and the integrated rainfly are ready in about 60 seconds. We believe in offering the very best value, quality, and selection.

We recently had an opportunity to use the Coleman 8 Person Instant Tent on one of our camping trips in British Columbia. Coleman claims that the tent can be set up in one minute, hence the ‘Instant Tent’ name. The large floor space (320cm L x 260cm W) comfortably fit our queen size mattress, three pieces of luggage and a baby travel cot. And, without the travel cot we fit two camping chairs and a small camping table or a playmat inside.

And if you’re the type that doesn’t like a single spot of light when you’re sleeping at night, well, you’re in luck. With all its windows closed, this Coleman 10-Person Instant Dark Room Tent is almost pitch black, even though there are still street lights from the outside. The other door at the right width of the tent doesn’t come with any fiberglass poles, so it’s not hinged, and you do have to zip it open and close.

The rain fly might take another couple of minutes, but it’s also a very simple set of buckles that even one person can handle with ease. If you’ve always had a more traditional tent, you’ll find yourself laughing at how quick and easy the Instant Tent 6 goes up. The main appeal of the Coleman Instant 6 is detailed in its name.

Also, there’s 1 e-port at the bottom of the tent with a zippered closure. There are 2 pockets in the entire tent, both measuring about 7 by 8 inches, which is really tiny for such a large tent. You can also fit just 1 or 2 queen-sized beds in one “room”, and use the other as a living room (2 pictures above). The divider comes with S-hooks that you can easily attach to loops at the top of the tent, and also at the sides (5 of these in total). At 47 inches tall, it’s not very tall, so I did have to duck quite a bit when entering. This Coleman 10-Person Instant Cabin Tent has 2 doors, one at each width of the tent.

But if the item has been crammed in there willy-nilly, it’s like trying to untangle a ball of Christmas tree lights. They are not made to be hauled many miles through the wilderness or get blown away in a light breeze. While the packed away Instant Tent 6 is one of the larger tents we reviewed (44″ in length), it’s still easily manageable and storable, so it shouldn’t be an issue. If you’re speedy, you can probably have the tent up (sans rain fly) in 45 seconds. If you prefer to take your time, you’ll probably take more like 60 seconds. Thanks to intuitive, pre-attached telescoping poles, this 6-person tent sets up in just one minute.

COLEMAN 7X7 ILLUMILINE INSTANT TENT has pre-attached poles make setup a simple matter of unfold, extend and secure, so your tent and the integrated rainfly are ready in about 60 seconds. If it rains, the WeatherTec™ system with its patented welded floors coleman cooler and inverted seams will help you stay dry. We were fortunate enough to have amazing, dry weather so we didn’t get to test it out in the rain. This tent features WeatherTec System which is supposed to keep you dry and there is no need for a rain fly.

I have had tents previously, ones which were larger too, that have had little ventilation and felt extremely hot and uncomfortable waking up in once the sunrise had heated up the tent. We also never once batted an eye lid at the wind – the tent always felt sturdy and secure. Also, if you’re expecting any rain at all, you do need to seal this inverted seam. When you wake up, you can open all the window and door mesh panels, and get plenty of ventilation through all these massive mesh panels, so it doesn’t feel too stuffy in the tent during the day.

There was heavy rainfall both nights we stayed in the tent, and we had no issues with leaks, nor warmth, since it is a fairly small tent. Equally, the first morning there was beautiful sunshine, and the tent didn’t overheat either. There are decent vents at the top of the tent, which I felt helped with making sure the tent didn’t get overheated.
