It doesn’t matter what you’re riding – cargo bikes or gravel – Mongoose has all the bikes you need to get where you need to go. If somebody is looking for an inexpensive bike to ride occasionally or wants a second bike on which to do stunts, they are probably suitable for that person.
Because nothing in life is ever as simple as it should be, we’ve included a few more things to ponder when it comes to making sure everyone’s tires are in good shape for their next ride. Every tire has a recommended psi printed on its side close to where it touches the rim. This is usually written as a range (for instance, “90 to 115 psi”) since there are reasons why you’d want to be on the higher or lower end, which we’ll get into shortly.
To find the right size, check that you can stand over the bike with at least an inch or more between your crotch and the top tube. Then, check that the seat can be set about even with your hip while standing beside the bike. I tested a size extra large and found it’s a pretty close fit, though even at full extension the saddle is mongoose dirt bike a bit short for me. I took the Mongoose Switchback Expert on a few test rides on moderate but not aggressive trails at a reasonable speed. Smooth trails are a better choice than rough ones, especially when it comes to rocks and roots.
The idea is that a buyer could upgrade the fork down the road to something better, but honestly it’s not going to be worth the expense. The SR Suntour XCE coil fork is truly entry level, and while it absorbs bumps in the trail it’s heavy and harsh compared to a more expensive fork mongoose dirt bike with an air spring. Given my profession as a mountain bike journalist and product reviewer, it’s not unusual for friends and neighbors to ask me for bike recommendations.
The Mongoose brand of bicycles focuses on two product lines for consumers. The most popular line comprises discount bikes offered in department stores, while higher-end Mongoose bicycles can be found on the Mongoose website or in specialty bicycle shops. Tires are usually an inexpensive upgrade that can make a huge difference in the way a bike feels, but here again, buyers likely won’t want to bother. The included wheels feature narrow, 18mm rims that are even narrower than what you might find on a gravel bike today.
Compared to bikes from other major brands like Specialized and Trek, the Mongoose Switchback Expert offers a pretty similar value. The Switchback Expert currently costs $125 less than the Specialized Rockhopper and is the better choice, in my opinion, based on the geometry and parts specs. If you’re willing to spend a bit more, the $739 Trek Marlin 5 Gen 3 is worth a look for its upgraded drivetrain, wider tires, and similar weight, though still no dropper post.
Discover how many more trails you can grind your way up, how many out-of-the-way p… Essential for any enthusiastic cyclist, hand pumps are harder work to fill the tire with, and aren’t as quick. But they’re transportable, so you always have your pump with you. It’s simply foolish to embark on any long distance bike ride without your trusty hand pump and puncture repair kit. The problem with a fork upgrade, aside from the expense, is that you’ll likely need to get a new front wheel too since the included fork features a 9mm, non-Boost, quick mongoose bicycle release axle.
It is essential because you have to know how much weight your new bike can handle.
